FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is RADEP and why was I ordered to take it?
A: RADEP (Reckless and Aggressive Driver Education Program) is a 12-hour course required for drivers charged with reckless or aggressive driving in Virginia. Courts order it to ensure drivers understand the seriousness of their offense and commit to safer driving.
Q: How much does the RADEP course cost?
A: The full 12-hour RADEP course costs $120 when taken in-person. You can also take Part 1 only (8-hour Driver Improvement Clinic) for $60, or Part 2 only (4-hour Aggressive Driving Course) for $75. Both parts are available in-person or online.
Q: Can I take RADEP online?
A: Yes. The 8-Hour Driver Improvement Clinic (Part 1) is available as a fully online, self-paced course. The 4-Hour Aggressive Driving Course (Part 2) is also available online. You can complete the entire RADEP program online, entirely in-person, or mix and match formats to suit your schedule.
Q: Can I complete Part 1 and Part 2 separately?
A: Yes. The two parts of RADEP can be taken together or at different times. If you’ve already completed Part 1 — whether through 1 Stop Driving School or another Virginia-approved provider — you can take just Part 2 to finish your RADEP requirement. The reverse is also true: if you’ve completed Part 2 first, you can come back and complete Part 1 separately.
Q: How long is the RADEP course?
A: The complete RADEP course is 12 hours, consisting of an 8-hour Driver Improvement Clinic (Part 1) and a 4-hour Aggressive Driving Course (Part 2).
Q: Do you accept certificates from other schools?
A: Yes. We accept 8-Hour Driver Improvement Clinic certificates of completion from other Virginia-approved schools. If you’ve already completed Part 1 elsewhere, you can take just Part 2 with us — either in-person or online.
Q: When are in-person classes offered?
A: In-person RADEP classes are offered every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at the 1 Stop Driving School location in Hampton, VA. Visit the scheduling page to view specific dates and register.
Q: What should I bring to an in-person class?
A: Bring your court order or paperwork (if applicable), valid photo ID, payment ($120 for full RADEP, $60 for Part 1 only, or $75 for Part 2 only), and something to take notes with. If you completed the 8-hour clinic elsewhere, bring that certificate.
Q: Will completing RADEP help my court case?
A: Completing RADEP shows the court you’re taking responsibility and addressing your behavior. Many judges view completion favorably, and it may result in reduced penalties. Consult your attorney for specific advice on your case.
Q: Does RADEP reduce points on my license?
A: The 8-hour Driver Improvement Clinic portion may qualify you for up to 5 safe driving points (if eligible), which can offset demerit points. Check with DMV for specific eligibility.
Q: Is RADEP the same as a Driver Improvement Clinic?
A: No. RADEP is 12 hours and includes both an 8-hour Driver Improvement Clinic AND a 4-hour Aggressive Driving Course. The standard Driver Improvement Clinic is only 8 hours and doesn’t satisfy RADEP requirements.
Q: Will I receive a certificate immediately after completion?
A: Yes. For in-person classes, you’ll receive your Certificate of Completion at the end of the course. For online courses, your certificate is issued upon successful completion and can be submitted to the court immediately.
